Leland and Gray has adopted grading criteria and rubrics to assess the six writing genres:

  • narrative essay
  • personal or reflection essay
  • persuasive essay
  • procedure essay
  • report
  • response to text

Informational Writing / Expository Writing

An umbrella term for all writing that explains, reports, argues, and analyzes factual information. This kind of writing includes:

Summary

Reaction

Interpretation

Report

Argument

Evaluation

Explanation

Analysis

These writing tasks are often combined. For example, a reaction paper can include interpretation, an argument can include a summary, and an analysis may include a summary.

Standardized Format for Writing Assignments

2011-12

1.     All final papers are typed, double-spaced, with one-inch margins, using size 12-point standard font. Fonts should be formal and readable, such as Times New Roman or Helvetica.
