School Choice

August 13, 2015

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Leland and Gray welcomes students who reside in towns that do not have school choice. We accept up to twenty (20) high school students to attend as part of Vermont’s new School Choice legislation. We are concerned that more students may wish to attend during the 2016-17 school year than space permits, and encourage you to submit the School Choice form by the deadline of March 2, 2016.

In accordance with State and School Board regulations, if more than twenty applications are received, then these are entered in a lottery by March 6th. The new State law does not permit preferential treatment to younger siblings of current Leland and Gray students, as had previously been the case. Preferential acceptance will be given to students who had previously applied but were not admitted. As principal, I will notify all applicants of their admittance status by mail no later than April 1st.

By April 15th, students must accept the offer to enroll at Leland and Gray. Those who do not meet this deadline are dropped from enrollment. If needed, a second lottery will be held of the remaining applicants to fill any newly vacant spots.

Any student who wants to attend L&G, but who is not accepted through Vermont’s Public School Choice process, due to limited slots, may choose to pay tuition at the annual rate to enroll.

For more information on the Public School Choice procedures at Leland and Gray, visit the school website at under the heading, “Students & Parents.” For a paper copy, please call the main office at 365-7355. If you have any questions, please call or email me at Thank you for your consideration.
