Leland and Gray Newsletter

Welcome!

Dear Seventh Grade Students and their Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Rebel country! The Leland and Gray faculty, staff and administration extend a huge welcome to the Class of 2018 and are looking forward to getting to know you and guiding your educational journey over the next six years.

Summer seems to be passing quickly and plans are in place for our annual Grade 7 Orientation Night, which will be held on Monday, August 27th from 7:00 to 8:30pm at Leland and Gray. This event offers you an opportunity to meet your teachers, get your final schedule, tour the building, and learn all about our courses and after-school programs. Each student and parent will join a small group that travels together to presentations taking place in seventh grade classrooms. Upon arrival, please enter through the A-Level entrance to pick up your personalized orientation schedule.

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 28, 2012. The homeroom bell rings at 7:45am and your first period class starts at 7:50am. Classes are 42-minutes long, plus a double-period of science every other day. A 15-minute advisory time is scheduled daily between periods 2 and 3. School ends after eighth period at 2:30pm. Please note that Leland and Gray offers breakfast every day from 7:15-7:45am and a hot lunch at 11:04 to 11:30am.

Parent/guardian involvement may be the most important resource in fostering student success. At Leland and Gray, we encourage this participation, even though students may not want the same. Extensive studies have shown that children have greater academic achievement when their parents are involved in their education. Motivation, a positive attitude about themselves, and a sense of control over their environment improve with parental/guardian involvement. All parents are invited to attend the Parent Advisory Group, which meets on the third Tuesday of each month in the library.

We are looking forward to seeing you!

Sincerely,
