Ann Chapman - Grade 9

Grade 9 students taking English in the Fall Semester must come and see me in B5 to collect a copy of the American classic - The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.

There are a number of assignments I'd like you to do, related to the book:

  • Look at the pictures and connect each one of the pictures to the novel. You should give page numbers and citations.
  • Once you have read the novel, please write a review of it for the upcoming Grade 9 students - Summer Semester. A well organized, thoughtful paragraph is sufficient.
  • Look below the images for Reflective Essay Assignment.

The second assignment I'd like you to work on is a REFLECTIVE ESSAY. Tell me something about yourself!

The title of your essay should be ME, MYSELF, I. Your essay should be five paragraphs - introduction - 3 body paragraphs - conclusion. You can include details of where you were born and raised...your family and friends...where you live...your pets...school days...what you hope to get out of English class in grade 9...your passions and interests...

Check out the images connected to the novel The Catcher in the Rye! As you read the book, please ensure you connect the images to the pertinent pages in the text. For example...Holden (main character) and his bright red hunting hat! You should use direct citations from the text in your remarks on the images.
