Co-Curricular Music Programs
Samba band is an ensemble that plays traditional and contemporary Carnaval music from Brazil. Anyone who wants to play drums in an exciting group, from expert percussionists to total beginners, is welcome to join. The group, which meets weekly after school, does several parades and concerts each year.
A Cappella is an auditioned singing group that meets once a week after school for the whole school year. A wide variety of music is sung from 16th century madrigals to contemporary style a cappella. The group sings in the big Leland and Gray concerts as well as in other venues in the community.
High School Jazz Band
The high school jazz band plays a variety of jazz and contemporary music. It is open to students who play the instruments that are in the traditional big band. It rehearses once a week for the whole school year. It plays several concerts including the Winter Concert and the Pops Concert.
JV Jazz plays big band jazz. It is open to middle school instrumentalists as well as high school musicians who are not in the high school jazz band or who are playing second instruments. They rehearse once a week in the second semester and play at the Pops Concert at the end of the year.
