Starting Time Next Year
After months of study, the Windham Central Supervisory Union Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Steven John, has made the determination that the starting time of school at Leland and Gray and elementary schools will not change for the 2012-13 school year. Bus pick-up times will likely be similar to this year’s schedule, though a confirmation of pick-up times will be available in August.
Student Course Schedules for 2012-13
On Friday, June 1st, Leland and Gray students in grades 8-11 will receive their schedule of courses for the 2012-13 school year. Every attempt has been made by the school counseling and information technology departments to include all students’ requested courses. In addition, every student should have a full schedule, since no study halls have been added at this time. Overall, students have made impressive choices from L&G’s Program of Studies, with higher enrollments in foreign language, science, and accelerated courses. Plus many students have signed up for new social studies electives, such as Military History and Economics, and English electives, such as Introduction to Film Studies and Public Speaking, all of which enrich our comprehensive secondary level education. After reviewing the schedule, parents/guardians and students should report any concerns to their school counselor. Many thanks to all the faculty and staff members who have worked so hard on producing the 2012-13 master schedule and scheduling each student’s individual program.
Spirit Days Arriving
Spirit Days are returning to Leland and Gray. Thanks to the enthusiasm and time students and faculty have invested, we have four days of fun and challenging educational activities planned for everyone. The spirit competition began back in April with class competitions, and on June 4th the class winner will be honored. Here is an overview of the days ahead.
Tuesday, May 29 - Morning 30-min. assembly
NECAP raffle, science trivia questions, athletic class competitions
Thursday, May 31 - Morning 30-min. assembly
Social studies trivia questions, athletic class competitions
Friday, June 1 - Morning assembly 30-min.
Mathematics trivia questions, name-that-tune competition, athletic class competitions
Monday, June 4 - Classes until 11:30, then:
Activities including a concert, athletic class competitions, field day games, and the 2012 winner announcement
Please remember that Spirit Days are part of the school curriculum, similar to Winter Activities, and require student attendance and participation. These activities focus on social and character education to foster well-rounded students in a positive school environment. Healthy competition, pride in one’s class and school, and representing one’s classmates are all necessary for healthy community, social, emotional, and physical development.
